Synth leads are a style of synthesizer patch used to fill the midrange in electronic music. They are typically characterized by a short attack and long release. Leads are found in most styles of electronic music, but they are almost always found in trance music.

Loops

Loops are snippets of audio designed to seamlessly play again and again. They are popular in many forms of music due their ease of composition. Often, loops are used to create drum tracks because they are easily pitched up and down without blending issues. Hiphop and house music heavily utilize loops.

MIDI is a message-passing system used to allow music devices to communicate. Instead of carrying audio, MIDI carries timing information used to trigger other devices.

For example, MIDI is used to tell a drum machine to play a kick drum. But, MIDI does not contain the kick drum sound itself. It only contains the instruction to play the drum.
