Hi All, I new on this forum and have problem with recording using ZED14 through USB. See below my emails with Technical support:
"Hi Marcin,
Sorry for the delay in replying. We have been flooded with emails after the PLASA show, and have been trying to work our way through them.
Right, so the tips I gave you before on this didn’t work, though you thought they had for a time – is that correct?
>Under USB output on ZED 14 you have 3 buttons, AUX 1, 2; AUX 3, 4 & LR PRE – should any of these be up, down. When I push >down LR PRE the signal is stronger, if I push AUX 1,2,3,4 there is NO signal at all coming to computer.
These buttons configure what you want to put out on the USB bus. If you want the USB to carry the main mix modified by the main output faders, all of these buttons should be up. Pressing the LR PRE button will give you the same output signal, but not affected by the main output faders. Pressing this will make the output signal louder if all buttons were up previously AND the main output faders are set lower than 0 (as read on the scale). If you put the main faders at 0, and then press only the LR PRE, there will be no difference in level.
>if I push AUX 1,2,3,4 there is NO signal at all coming to computer.
If you push any of these buttons, the signal going to the computer will be the signal on the Aux 1, 2 3, 4 buses respectively. If you haven’t dialled up any signal on these pots (see the section on Aux sends in the User Guide) on the channels, then you will send no signal to the computer.
Thanks for the listing of your set up.
ST1’s gain control would need to be set to the right level to get the best signal in to the mixer without distortion. ST1’s fader would need to be up to route the CD player input to the mix.
Can you try this and let me know exactly what you get? You say “it’s not clean, bass is poor almost no bass”, but are you sure that this is the case? Can you record what you get out of the ZED and send it to us as an audio file perhaps (wav format).
“Hi Marcin,
Sorry for the delay in replying – we’ve been tied up with the PLASA show.
What sort of noise are you getting? Can you describe it? It’s not clean, bass is poor almost no bass.
You have a complex set-up there. It might be an idea to simplify the system there to start with, by disconnecting the DJM800 from the ZED temporarily, and then connect a CD player in its place. Can you record the signal from the CD player cleanly? If so, this would seem to rule out the computer set-up as the cause of the problem. If it’s not recording cleanly, check the status of stereo channel 3 – make sure that the fader on this channel is not up, or you will be taking the USB return and sending it back out to the USB, creating a loop (set by the input and output devices on the Apple being the ZED14). Try turning down the Stereo Channel 3 fader. Does this stop the noise?
If this is now recording the CD player cleanly, you can putting the DJM800 and decks back into the system.
If the noise is not caused by an audio loopback in the manner described above, can you let me know the serial number of the unit in question?”
I thought I have everything fixed, I mean it’s working now but unfortunately is NOT. I have better quality of sound but I’m sure it should be much better. Under USB output on ZED 14 you have 3 buttons, AUX 1, 2; AUX 3, 4 & LR PRE – should any of these be up, down. When I push down LR PRE the signal is stronger, if I push AUX 1,2,3,4 there is NO signal at all coming to computer.
You mentioned that noises can link to computer set-up but the only thing I’ve done is direct “in & out” devices to ZED14 so I think that should work.
I would like call you but it’s not easy to reach any of support team, I tried few times. Maybe you can send me quick email when you have spare minute then I’ll call you back??
One more time I’ll let you know how I connected everything:
1. CD out to ZED 14 - ST 1 channel
2. USB cable to Apple
3. Devices “in & out” in computer to ZED 14
4. Push down LR PRE
5. Fader channel 3 down
6. Following knobs down to zero AUX 1, 2 PRE & AUX 3 , 4 POST on channels 2 & 3
I'll much appreciate if someone can help on this!!
thanks in advance
