hi there !
i am a premium member and appreciated the tipps and tricks i΄ve got .
my question concerns the submix technique.
what sounds do I put in a drum submix ?
everything ? hihats, snares, toms etc ? also the kick drum or should I make a submix only for the kickdrum and bass ?
also the subbass tones I create for groove and weight between the 4/4 kicks I should make a group with all the basstones and also distort or compress them together ? and than another group for kick and the bass tones separately ?
I saw a technique chris lake does he puts everthing (whole drums, bassdrum and bass !) in one group with a really hot compressor running
should I also distort the whole drumtrack and how should I make the compressor settings ? only light compression for taming the peaks or should I run it hot for more presence and punch ? I know its for sure a matter of taste but I would appreciate an expert advice for this !
I also found out that it makes a real difference if I put the bassdrum(s) in the drumgroup. sometimes it works fine sometimes its ruining the timbre of my bassdrum
also do u send a short drumplate reverb to the whole drumgroup or to the tracks separately ?
I mean if I have my bassdrum with all the percussion and drums going on in 1 group is it ok to put that reverb on ? because I think thats not so good for the presence of the bassdrum ?
omg I am so technically minded I really would get away the puzzle in my head about this !
I really try hard to get better everytime I really bought all the dvds and books I found !! and I am always on the run to come even further with my skillz an my tracks.
I ve been doing this now for about 2 years I really learned a lot and makes me often banging my head to the wall because I learnend that beside my 38 h fulltime job week ..
anyway I only wanted to say that because I am really into it and want to improve my tracks always further
please matt give a good answer
cheers
