Any reports from Mac users? I don't own a Mac so your input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks joel!

The editor is not currently available as a UB. However, I am seriously considering porting it.

I downloaded last night and unzipped.

File is called SkinEditor.bin... I haven't seen a .bin file since the good old days of System 7 (ok, OS 9.2 a few years ago). Bin files were MacBinary

I don't think this will install in OS X - most OS X applications end in .app. I'm guessing if you can port it to BSD, then it might work on OS X....uh..unless I'm missing something obvious.

Cheers,
-JamesW-

Oh, and I did change the suffix from .bin to .app and my computer said I needed OS 9 classic to open it.

Duh..

Nevermind - my DAW PowerBook is stripped down for music only so I didn't have stuffit installed. I opened it on my iBook instead.

Smile I'm glad to hear it worked out. It sounds like this is kind of confusing for Mac OS X. The final version will have a separate download for OS X and Classic.

Thanks so much for testing this out.

Thanks for releasing this application!!
The OSX (experimental) version will not start up on my MacBookPro. The 9 & OSX version does though.

Yes the same here,
the experimental versions opens,
then a window pops up and says:
An exeption off class NilObjectExeption was not handled,
the application must shut down.
The editor crashes when clicking ok.

Greetings

Version 2.0 of the skin editor is coming out very soon. I just recently got the newest compiler used to build the editor. This will allow for a Universal Binary release and should also fix the NilObjectException problem, too. Thanks for testing it out and stay tuned for the next release Smile

like shite.

the OSX version doesnt launch at all, behaves like an app with zerolink turned on in development mode. (this would run when launched in xcode, but once moved wouldnt do anything)

the .bin version runs, is very unresponsive, and the skin files generated do not work.

Powerbook G4, OS X 10.4.8, Live 6.0.1

im considering writing a simplified browser based editor if anyone is interested.
you would need only pick your colors and download your theme file.

I'm sorry you had such a bad user experience. This is the first time I've heard the performance is so bad on some Macs. I tested the editor on a few different G4 systems and it ran great. So I guess it depends on the system.

I'd love to solve any issues you have with the editor. If you would send me a copy of the faulty skin file I will happily look into it.

Thanks for testing the software.

i didnt mean to sound overly critical, i think its great that youre working on this software for everyone. i just think you may be taking a much more difficult approach than is necessary.
if you were to write a (solitary) web version (perl would suffice), you wouldnt have to worry about it functioning on different platforms, and you wouldnt have to worry about gui code.

You're absolutely right. A solid flash, java, or ajax interface would provide all the functionality needed for the editor. It would probably be a lot easier to code, too. The reason I chose to do a multi-platform client-side app is because I wanted the experience of doing a multi-platform client-side app. It sounded like fun, and it was Smile
